Spring at the salon
23 March 2020

“To dress in period dress is to forget oneself, to leave one’s daily life behind and to open up to the pleasure of discovering oneself in another that could have existed. I felt new, light, daring for the first time in front of an objective, “Catherine – March 2020.

It’s our first time together

A first time rarely happens as we had imagined. Either we are extremely disappointed or we are pleasantly surprised by a new experience.

In the course of my “back to 1900” photo shoots, it is always the first time for the model I host. It is even our first time together. We become an ephemeral pair that creates a relationship of trust for an atypical portrait.

With my newsletter Salon by Mademoiselle Louison, I would like to share with you – my professional network, my new contacts, my models and my loved ones – all the emotions that drive me during my photo shoots. I wish to let you experience how I overcome difficulties, how I reinvent each situation to get the best out of it. I’ll give you my anecdotes and tips as a new entrepreneurial photographer. Because I deeply believe in sharing and growing together, my adventure is also yours.

How does a “Mademoiselle Louison” session take place?

For his first time in “Belle Epoque” outfits, the model lets me dress her/him, accessorize her/him and even put make-up on her/him. The principle of dressing on one’s own clothes allows to keep a known skin, a reassuring cocoon. However, our relationship to beauty is very singular and our search for the “right” profile is fragile.

But vintage allows us to take this particular distance with our real reflection. It subtly distances us from the dictates of today’s image. But our uncompromising gaze persists. We are hard on ourselves. And this is where my accompaniment comes to life. Before the picture, there are the words. Discovering oneself in antique finery cradled by my 1900 stories is the first step in the budding process to come… At each photo session, it’s a delight to see my models’ confidence blossom. It’s an intimate gift they give me and I fully appreciate its significance.

“We abandon ourselves to the game and trust each other. It’s surprising to feel swept away by the desire to be a model,” Catherine – March 2020.

Every first time, there is that inevitable moment of letting go. The real novelty escapes our landmarks. During my sessions, the staging that precedes the shooting is one of these discoveries. You surprise yourself as a singer, a dancer, a socialite, a romantic… My artistic project is to bring you to this sublime portrait, out of time, that you would never have dared to do with your modern dressing room.

In creating Mademoiselle Louison, I really wanted to create a space where everyone would feel good, good, beautiful, joyful, happy; a bubble of role-playing in all lightness from which we would each leave with our “Souvenirs from Paris”. A unique immersive photo experience in which you are the heroine/hero, that’s the story.

So even if I hadn’t imagined the first spring of Mademoiselle Louison in confinement, I’m delighted with the first shots taken thanks to you and I’ve decided to sing Spring!

Watching life in slow motion

While waiting for the next newsletter, I invite you to watch life in slow motion, the buds and the first flowers. For these first days of spring in the living room, I’m redrawing my staging of reality: my living room is lined with flowery wallpaper, the half-open window invites a gentle breeze, the sun shines on my porcelain with a golden border and I’ve invited my friend Hubertine Auclert to discuss her future portrait. The reverie is mine and it’s a delight.

Welcome to the Salon by Mademoiselle Louison!
